She Who Dares to Make History: The Beacon of Hope that is Michelle ObamaLUX South Africa | 28 April 2017
Michelle Obama is undoubtedly one of the most influential women in the world and that can be attributed (but not limited) to her status as the United States of America’s former First Lady. Michelle’s rise to prominence and global admiration serves as a testament for the LUX woman who isn’t afraid to break the mould and go for glory.
Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is an American lawyer who is married to former United States president, Barack Obama. True to the nature of a go-getter, Michelle played a pivotal role in Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2007 and delivered keynote speeches to influence change across America. Not only is Michelle lauded for her speeches but is also recognized as a fashion icon, an advocate for poverty awareness and role model for women worldwide.
During her sophomore year at Princeton University, Michelle became actively involved in the Third World Center –which is an academic group that endorses minority students and helps with after school tutoring. In 1988, she obtained law degree from Harvard University and although her practice was short-lived, Michelle left an indelible mark in the marketing and intellectual property industry.
It is true that a woman is defined by her aura, presence and how she carries herself, and Mrs Obama effortlessly exudes all three qualities. During her tenure as the First Lady of the United States, Michelle personally visited soup kitchens and homeless shelters while delegating representatives of the White House to visit local schools.
Michelle Obama shows in many ways that she dares to make history by taking bold steps and standing firmly for what she believes and strives to achieve. Michelle Obama’s beauty extends beyond her physical appearance and as a result, women all over the world look to her to find inspiration. In 2006, Essence magazine listed her in the ‘’25 of the World’s Most Inspiring Women’’ and it is because of this poise that she has become part of popular culture. Michelle boasts a unique style that has earned her the ‘’best dressed First Lady’’ title in recent years.
Being one of the world’s most influential women comes with a lot of responsibility and accountability, but Michelle has proved over the years that being true to one’s beliefs is the ultimate accomplishment that any woman can have. Her commitment to humanitarian work has seen Michelle travel to foreign countries to build international relationships with other powerful women, such as former First Lady of South Africa, Graca Machel.
The lifelong lessons that Mrs Obama shares with her admirers is that self-respect, determination and being comfortable in your own skin is all that you need to succeed; something that every LUX lady holds dear to her heart.
